Keep your hands warm

Do you have cold hands in winter? Do you have a job outside where you can't wear gloves? You've probably used hand warmers before. Most hand warmers are disposable and can only be used once. These reusable hand warmers are perfect because you can use them over and over again! They are available in different colors and have nice words and designs on them. Keep one in each pocket and your hands will be nice and warm despite the cold.

How do reusable hand warmers work?

Unlike disposable hand warmers, these hand warmers are reusable. They are small plastic pouches with a transparent liquid and a small metal disc inside. To release the heat, flex the metal disc. Hey, presto! The liquid will turn into crystals that give off heat. The heat lasts about 45 minutes, or longer if you have it in your pocket. To reset the hand warmer, boil it in water for about 10 minutes, until the crystals turn back into liquid. You can boil several at a time.

How does the hand warmer work? The liquid in the pouch is made up of water and sodium acetate. When you flex the small disk, it releases tiny pieces of metal. These agitate the sodium acetate, an amazing chemical, causing a chain reaction. The sodium acetate turns into crystals that release the stored thermal energy. It will heat up to 54°C! You can reverse the process by boiling the pouch until the liquid is clear again.

Where can you use the hand warmers?

These reusable hand warmers are perfect for protecting yourself from the cold during the winter. Numb hands are not to be taken lightly! Keep one in every pocket of your jacket. Cold hands can also aggravate arthritis pain, so keeping your hands warm will help. Many people use hand warmers when they are doing outdoor activities. Of course, you will need to be able to put your hands in your pocket at least some of the time. So skiing might not be a good use for them! But they can be very useful when you are hiking, bird watching or working outside. If you are out and about and your shoes get wet, you can also use a couple of spare hand warmers to dry your shoes more quickly.

Environmentally friendly

As mentioned above, most hand warmers are disposable. This means that once you use them, you have to throw them away. Not great for landfills. Of course, these reusable hand warmers come in a plastic pouch. But since you can use them over and over again, you won't be contributing to the production of waste in the environment. They last for about 300 uses!

Cute gift idea

Many people buy several hand warmers and give them to their friends. Do you have a friend who always has cold hands? Do you have a family member who works outside? They will certainly appreciate your thoughtful gift. Some people also use hand warmers to soothe sore muscles or painful joints. If the warmer is in constant contact with your skin, we recommend that you put a layer of fabric between your skin and the hand warmer. Putting it in a sock would be perfect.
